This year’s @ction Party took a twisted turn into Alice’s wonderland in a mystical, woodsy whirlwind of artfully-arranged paper mâche and packing peanuts. In the center of the underbrush were Reneé “Cherry Bopper” Maxwell and Carissa “Sparkarella” Boesch, who were the party’s go-go girls dancing onstage.
Inspired by the foliage-pixie theme, Maxwell and Boesch held the dance floor’s gaze as they jived and thrust to bumping beats by MNDR, DJ Rat and Underdog. The two are part of Hella Go-Go dancers that perform around Columbia, and it was their second year at the @ction party.
“We were told it was going to be a woodsy, mystical vibe, so we made our costumes to match that,” Maxwell says.
That isn’t entirely true. Maxwell actually purchased her green-layered vellum tutu and wings online; whereas, Boesch used Maxwell’s same costume to design and sew her own. When complemented on her outfit, she beams.
“Well I hope it looks good,” Boesch says. “I put three days of blood, sweat and tears into this thing!” The purple wigs, four-inch pink eyelashes and, of course, the white go-go boots make quite the ensemble.
The young women are great, even if their stage is a little different than their usual ’60s retro routine. “We weren’t expecting to dance under a large petticoat!” Maxwell says.
But hey, when can you predict anything at True/False?
